Now it is final: A huge victory for the Gulf of Eilat!

Israel's Attorney General, Meni Mazuz, decides the fish cages must be removed from the Gulf according to the government's decision.

Attorney General Meni Mazuz stood with Zalul Environmental Association on the subject of the removal of the fish cages from the Gulf of Eilat and denied the request of the General Manager of the Prime Minister's office, Raanan Dinor, to delay the removal of the fish cages.

During the last few months the struggle was renewed between the fish cage owners and environmental organizations – led by Zalul - on the subject of the removal of the fish cages from the Gulf of Eilat, when the owners of the cages requested the intervention of Raanan Dinor, General Nanger of the Prime Minister's office, to postpone the removal of the cages from Gulf of Eilat in opposition to the decision of the Israeli government in 2005.

During this period, Zalul turned many times to Attorney General Meni Mazuz to reject the request of the General Manager of the Prime Minister's office and not to interfere with the courts and government decision to remove the fish cages by 2008.

.

On October 21, 2007, Attorney General Meni Mazuz made his final decision on the matter, and decided to stick by the decision of the government and to reject the demands of Raanan Dinor to delay of the removal of the cages from the gulf.

Zalul believes the decision of the Attorney General proves in the most concrete way that polluters will not receive validation by the State of Israel.  Not even attempts for immunity to polluters like the interference of the General Manager of the Prime Minister's office, will validate polluters actions.

Yariv Abramovich, Director of Zalul explained about the final stage before this victory, "During these few months we encountered the shamelessness of the fish cage lobby and their denial to fulfill the government decision. The decision of the Attorney General seals the deal on this affair. It proves that the removal of the fish cages from the Gulf of Eilat is a closed issue that does not leave an open door to the actions, excuses and tactics of the fish cages or anyone else who will attempt to change the law of the State of Israel."
