
"Dag Suf" corporation must remove its fish cages from the Gulf of Eilat
A court verdict: "Dag Suf" corporation must remove its fish cages from the Gulf of Eilat as it was supposed to do according to the government decision from June 2005.
On February 22, 2007 a court verdict cancelled Dag Suf's plea to cancel the government decision to remove the fish cages from the Gulf of Eilat.
After many years of demonstrations, legal battles, court decisions, and committee decisions, the government has finally decided to save the national treasure of Israel's coral reef and remove the fish cages from the Gulf of Eilat. This precedence setting government decision from June 2005 ordered the polluting fish cage (marine culture) to remove their operation from the water by 2008 – one third each year from 2006-2008.
Since the government decision "Ardag" and "Dag Suf" refused to remove the fish cages from the Gulf of Eilat. Only after a plea bargain was signed by Ardag as a result of a lawsuit by the state's attorney did the removal of the fish cages began. On February 22, the entire saga came to and end as a court verdict cancelled Dag Suf's plea to circumvent the government decision.
Now, Ardag as well as Dag Suf must remove their fish cages by 2008!
