Zalul's monitoring report that examined the Lachish River's condition shows a serious pollution problem both chemical and bacterial.
A special report from Zalul demonstrates: According to Zalul's tests of the Lachish River during the past several months, there were significant deviations of pollution in the river's waters.
Zalul's monitoring report that examined the Lachish River's condition shows a serious pollution problem both chemical and bacterial.
The sources of pollution that were found were mostly from municipal sources including the Ashdod Municipality, Regional Council of Beer Tuvia, and Regional Council Gan Yavne. These municipalities do not treat the sewage properly from the factories in their areas and do not maintain high standards for their sewage treatment facilities. All this wastewater including that of "Of Hakfar" flows into the Lachish River.
The report prepared by Zalul's scientific team examines a results of samples that were taken from the river's waters at different times over the period of several months and compared it to the "Inbar Standard" – a standard that sets the limits of what factories and sewage treatment facilities are allowed to spill into rivers.
In its conclusion, the report recommends that the municipality should warn the public about the dangers of coming in contact with the river's waters and publicize that the Lachish River poses a serious threat to the public's health. The report also recommends the prevention of any flow of untreated sewage into the river. Furthermore, all the wastewater flowing into the river from sewage treatment facilities must reach the "Inbar Standard" before it spilling into the river. In addition, the report suggests examining the separation between the sewage and drainage systems, so that the river will not be further polluted during rainstorms.
