Acco’s residents, Zalul activists, fishermen and other green-minded individuals all got together on Thursday to demonstrate against the sewage spills through the Ala Pipeline
The demonstrators demonstrated across from the Palm Beach Hotel where the Minister of Environment took part in a convention on the topic of Environment and Local Leadership
The demonstration took place as part of the Zalul’s joint campaign with the Acco municipality against the pollution in the Gulf of Acco. Approximately 40 people participated on the demonstration in which signs stating “who is the next victim?” were displayed and petitions under the same headline were signed.
During the campaign, which began in the beginning of June, dozens of booths were scattered around the city.
Up until now, over 10,000 Acco residents signed a petition that protests against the operation of the Ala Pipeline and the sewage spillage into the Gulf of Acco and calls the authorities to halt the operation of the pipeline and stop the plan to flow the industrial waste of the Kishon River factories to the Ala pipeline and into the sea.
The petition also states that the Gulf of Acco is a public asset and deserves to be developed as a tourist area that should include bathing and water-sports facilities. Those signed on the petition also commit to “fight for our health and the quality of our lives. We won’t let the Gulf of Acco turn into a puddle of industrial waste!…”
